Lilac Guitar Lounge is proud to offer this 1960 Fender Jazzmaster in its original Sunburst finish. 1960 was an amazing year at the Fender factory and this guitar is evidence of that. The guitar features a faded almost “2-tone” Sunburst, a “Slab” Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, and booming original Black-Bobbin pickups that shine in any live or studio setting. It's a wonderfully well-kept example, with everything remaining original on the guitar besides a replaced tremolo spring and some foam under the original pickups. It's also a great weight for an offset at just over 8 lbs. This one is worn to perfection and a joy to have in our shop. We are so stoked to have this special instrument in the shop, so don’t hesitate to contact us and ask any questions you may have about this listing.

Year:

1960

Finish:

Original faded Sunburst Nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and original finish on the neck and headstock face. There is checking throughout on the guitar, and some bumps and bruises as you’d expect on a 66 year old instrument. There are two small divots in the back of the guitar, likely from a belt buckle, and the seam of this two-piece alder body has cracked at the very edge of the treble horn (see photos). This crack is surface level and stable, and has been inspected by our luthier.

Fretboard Specifications:

7.25” radius “Slab” Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with clay dot markers. Original frets are present and worn, but play nicely after the setup it has gotten in our shop. The neck has been shimmed for optimal low action, but this can always be changed in the future easily with a different type of bridge and no shim.

Nut Width / Neck Measurements:

1.6”(41mm) wide at the nut / .8" (21mm) deep at first fret, .98" (25mm) deep at twelfth fret. No neck stamp or pencil date as is typical of early to mid 1960 at the Fender Fullerton factory.

Weight:

8 lbs, 1 oz. (3.7 kg)

Electronics:

Original Black-Bobbin Jazzmaster Single-Coil pickups and leads, original volume and tone pots (both dated to the 43rd week of ‘60). Pickups read 8.1k ohms at the bridge position and 7.5k at the neck position. Rhythm circuit is original and untouched.

Hardware:

All original hardware is present besides the internal tremolo system spring being replaced. The tremolo arm is original, but shorter than most Pre-CBS Jazzmaster arms. It still functions well as is.

Modifications:

Added foam underneath the pickups, tremolo spring replaced, 1 pickguard crack on the rhythm circuit tone knob area. In the past, some tape was added to further secure the wiring under the pickguard.

Case Details:

Original Brown Tolex hardshell case.

Included:

Original Hardshell case, original tremolo arm.

Additional Notes:

This 1960 Fender Jazzmaster checks all the boxes of a vintage Jazzmaster: commanding tone that will stick out in a mix, a lovely original finish that is well-kept and worn in, and an amazing feel on the neck while playing it. 1960 Jazzmasters are a little more affordable than ‘59 and certainly ‘58 examples, so if you’re looking for an early Jazzmaster without breaching $15k, this is your one. We love this guitar and are very excited to offer it up for a new owner, we’ll miss it!  If you have any questions at all about this guitar, do not hesitate to reach out to us at LilacGuitarLounge@gmail.com or message us on our website, or our instagram @LilacGuitarLounge.
