The late 60’s were a chaotic time at the Fender Factory, where some guitar quality wavered, but this isn’t one of the duds! Jaguars in the late 60’s are hard to come by, but they feature the coolest specifications in the offset world including block inlays, fully bound fretboards, big CBS headstocks, and bright pickups. This one rings as clear as a bell while staying balanced (it's one of the more powerful sounding Jags we’ve had in the shop) and has some serious play time under its belt as evidenced from the wear on the body. This guitar is a special one, and we’re sad to see it go, we know we won’t ever get one like it. If you love 60’s Fenders but want to pay half the price for a Jaguar than you would for a Pre-CBS one, this is the guitar for you! Year:
1970 (featuring factory parts spanning from late 1966 to early 1970)
Finish:
Original sunburst finish; polyurethane finish on neck and body. The face of the headstock is sprayed in Nitrocellulose as all Fender guitars had during this time period.
Fretboard Specifications:
7.25” radius, bound indian rosewood fretboard with block pearloid inlays. The frets appear to be original, and preserved well.
Nut Width / Neck Measurements:
1.6”(42mm) wide at the nut / .89" deep at first fret, .93" deep at twelfth fret. The back of the neck finish is played smooth for the most part but still has some gloss to it. The neck has been shimmed with a StewMac 1 degree shim for optimal playability. The dating codes (which were in green at this time period) have faded and are not legible.
Weight:
8 lbs, a nice weight, especially for a CBS era offset.
Electronics:
Original CBS Jaguar Pickups and wiring (solder is factory as well). Volume and Tone pots date to 1966 (Fender used 1966 pots in guitars from 1966 all the way to 1970). Interior photos can be provided, just message us!
Hardware:
All original hardware, including the mute which will come with the guitar. The serial number on the neck plate dates to early 1970.

This 1970 Fender Jaguar is a steal, coming in at a price just below what you would pay for a new Custom Shop Jaguar (why fake all the wear when you could have a late 60s/early 70s offset at this price?). This has bright and balanced pickup output and playability to rival any of the vintage Fenders we’ve had in the shop, so make it yours before its too late!
